RESUMO

Waste from construction and demolition (also known as CDW) is one of the most harmful environmental issues. This study's primary goal is to produce new mortar and brick materials from recycled concrete powder (RCP) and recycled brick powder (RBP), two of the most popular CDW. Geopolymeric mortar and brick samples were produced by passing RCP and RBP through sieve No. 50 (with sand filler if necessary) and combining them with an alkaline solution made of water glass (WG) and NaOH. In this study, the mixture was then cured for three days at 80 °C in an oven. The effects of filler, RBP amount, WG amount, and the concentration of NaOH alkaline solution on the samples' strength were examined. Additionally, XRF and SEM/XRD tests were performed to verify the materials' composition and microstructure. The mechanical strength of the samples showed an increase with the increase of RCP values, so the brick sample with filler showed the highest compressive strength, measuring 59.53 MPa. The study's samples exhibited strong mechanical properties. Additionally, all of the bricks' water absorption fell within the standard range. In summary, according to different standards, both waste concrete and waste brick can be used to produce geopolymer materials especially bricks for construction and paving purposes.

RESUMO

Nowadays finding the new antimicrobials is necessary due to the emerging of multidrug resistant strains. The present study aimed to isolate and characterize bacteriophages against S. aureus. Strains Huma and Simurgh were the two podovirus morphology phages which isolated and then characterized. Huma and Simurgh had a genome size of 16,853 and 17,245 bp, respectively and both were Rosenblumvirus with G + C content of 29%. No lysogeny-related genes, nor virulence genes were identified in their genomes. They were lytic only against two out of four S. aureus strains. They also were able to inhibit S. aureus for 8 h in-vitro. Both showed a rapid adsorption. Huma and Simurgh had the latent period of 80 and 60 m and the burst sizes of 45 and 40 PFU/ml and also, they showed very low cell toxicity of 1.23%-1.79% on HT-29 cells, respectively. Thus, they can be considered potential candidates for biocontrol applications.

RESUMO

INTRODUCTION: Since the drug resistance in Candida species is becoming a serious clinical challenge, novel alternative therapeutic options, particularly herbal medicine, have attracted increasing interest. This study aimed to pinpoint the potential antifungal activity of crocin (Cro), the efficacy of the niosomal formulation of Cro (NCro), and the synergistic activity of both formulations in combination with fluconazole (FLC) against susceptible and resistant C. albicans isolates. MATERIAL AND METHODS: NCro was formulated using the heating method. The in vitro antimycotic activity of Cro, NCro, and FLC was evaluated. Checkerboard and isobologram assays evaluated the interaction between both formulations of Cro and FLC. Necrotic and apoptotic effects of different agents were analyzed using the flow cytometry method. In silico study was performed to examine the interactions between Lanosterol 14 alpha-demethylase and Cro as a part of our screening compounds with antifungal properties. RESULTS: NCro exhibited high entrapment efficiency up to 99.73 ± 0.54, and the mean size at 5.224 ± 0.618 µm (mean ± SD, n = 3). Both formulations of Cro were shown to display good anticandidal activity against isolates. The synergistic effect of the NCro in combination with FLC is comparable to Cro (P-value =0.03). Apoptotic indicators confirmed that tested compounds caused cell death in isolates. The docking study indicated that Cro has interactivity with the protein residue of 14α-demethylase. CONCLUSION: The results showed a remarkable antifungal effect by NCro combined with FLC. Natural compounds, particularly nano-sized carrier systems, can act as an effective therapeutic option for further optimizing fungal infection treatment.

RESUMO

Leishmaniasis is a disease of poverty that imposes a devastating medical, social, and economic burden on over 1 billion people nationwide. To date, no in-depth study to analyze the major global challenges and needs assessment has been carried out. This investigation aimed to explore a comprehensive narrative review of leishmaniasis's main challenges and initially highlight obstacles that might impede the implementation of control measures. Also, we propose a specific list of priorities for needs assessment. The presence of socioeconomic factors, multiple clinical and epidemiological forms, various Leishmania species, the complexity of the life cycle, the absence of effective drugs and vaccines, and the lack of efficient vector and reservoir control make this organism unique and sophisticated in playing a tangled role to react tricky with its surrounding environments, despite extensive efforts and implementation of all-inclusive former control measures. These facts indicate that the previous strategic plans, financial support, and basic infrastructures connected to leishmaniasis surveillance are still insufficient. Strengthening the leishmaniasis framework in a context of accelerated programmatic action and intensification of cross-cutting activities along with other neglected tropical diseases (NTDs) is confidently expected to result in greater effectiveness, cost-benefit, and fruitful management. Sensitive diagnostics, effective therapeutics, and efficacious vaccines are vital to accelerating advancement toward elimination, and reducing morbidity/mortality and program costs. Collective actions devoted by all sectors and policy-makers can hopefully overcome technical and operational barriers to guarantee that effective and coordinated implementation plans are sustained to meet the road map for NTDs 2021- 2030 goals.

RESUMO

One of the main challenges in tissue engineering is finding a way to deliver specific growth factors (GFs) with precise spatiotemporal control over their presentation. Here, we report a novel strategy for generating microscale carriers with enhanced affinity for high content loading suitable for the sustained and localized delivery of GFs. Our developed microparticles can be injected locally and sustainably release encapsulated growth factors for up to 28 days. Fine-tuning of particles' size, affinity, microstructures, and release kinetics is achieved using a microfluidic system along with bioconjugation techniques. We also describe an innovative 3D micromixer platform to control the formation of core-shell particles based on superaffinity using a polymer-peptide conjugate for further tuning of release kinetics and delayed degradation. Chitosan shells block the burst release of encapsulated GFs and enable their sustained delivery for up to 10 days. The matched release profiles and degradation provide the local tissues with biomimetic, developmental-biologic-compatible signals to maximize regenerative effects. The versatility of this approach is verified using three different therapeutic proteins, including human bone morphogenetic protein-2 (rhBMP-2), vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF), and stromal cell-derived factor 1 (SDF-1α). As in vivo morphogenesis is typically driven by the combined action of several growth factors, the proposed technique can be developed to generate a library of GF-loaded particles with designated release profiles.

RESUMO

INTRODUCTION: Emerging infectious diseases such as SARS-CoV-2 can cause pandemics and create a critical risk for humans. In a previous pilot study, we reported that the immunological responses induced by cutaneous leishmaniasis (CL) could decrease the incidence and severity of COVID-19. In this large-scale case-control study, we assessed the possible relationship between mortality and morbidity of COVID-19 in healed CL persons suffering scars compared to cases without CL history. METHODS: This controlled cross-sectional study was conducted between July 2020 and December 2022 in the endemic and high-burden areas of CL in southeastern Iran. In the study, 1400 previous CL cases with scars and 1,521,329 subjects who had no previous CL were analyzed. We used R 4.0.2 to analyze the data. Firth's bias reduction approach corresponding to the penalization of likelihood logistic regression by Jeffreys was also employed to influence the variables in the dataset. Also, a Bayesian ordinal logistic regression model was performed to explore the COVID-19 severity in both case and referent groups. RESULTS: The occurrence and severity rate of COVID-19 in CL scar cases are significantly less than in the non-CL control group, while in the CL scar subjects, patients with critical conditions and mortality were not observed. The morbidity (OR = 0.11, CI 0.06-0.20 and P < 0.001) and severity of COVID-19 in previous cases with CL scars were significantly diminished than that in the control group (credible interval - 2.57, - 1.62). CONCLUSIONS: The results represented a durable negative relationship between cured CL and COVID-19 incidence and severity. Additional studies seem necessary and should be designed to further validate the true impact and underlying mechanistic action of CL on COVID-19.

RESUMO

Leishmaniasis is a complex disease. Any change in weather conditions affects the humans' social and agricultural expansion and, consequently, the parasite's life cycle in terms of ecology, biodiversity, social stigma, and exclusion. This population-based prospective longitudinal investigation was conducted between 1991 and 2021 in a well-defined CL (cutaneous leishmaniasis) focus in Bam County, southeastern Iran. A robust health clinic and health surveillance system were responsible for the ongoing systematic documentation, detection, identification, and management of CL cases. The exponential smoothing method via the state space model was used in the univariate time series. The TTR, smooth, and forecast packages were used in R software. Landsat satellite images from 1991, 2001, 2011, and 2021 were employed in the physical development. During this period, the temperature increased while the rainfall and humidity decreased. The findings showed a downward trend in the standardized drought index. Also, the results showed that climate warming and ecological changes profoundly affected the area's agricultural patterns and topographical features. Furthermore, the last three decades witnessed an elimination trend for zoonotic CL (ZCL) and the predominance of anthroponotic CL (ACL). The present findings showed that the critical factors in the predominance of ACL and elimination of ZCL were rising temperature, drought, migration, unplanned urbanization, earthquake, and agrarian reform. The wall-enclosed palm tree gardens excluded the primary ZCL reservoir host. They controlled the disease while providing suitable conditions for the emergence/re-emergence of ACL in the newly established settlements and the unplanned ecozone. Therefore, robust health infrastructures, sustained financial support, and evidence-based research studies are crucial to facilitating the necessary surveillance, monitoring, and evaluation to control and eliminate the disease.

RESUMO

Sulforaphane (SFN) is a type of phytochemical found in many cruciferous vegetables that has been shown to positively benefit the control of Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus (T2DM). The search was done from 2000 until December 2022 using PubMed, Scopus, Web of Sciences, and Google Scholar databases. We included all in vitro, in vivo, and clinical trials. Sulforaphane has been demonstrated to activate the PI3K/AKT and AMP-activated protein kinase pathways and the glucose transporter type 4 to increase insulin production and reduce insulin resistance. Interestingly, SFN possesses protective effects against diabetes complications, such as diabetic-induced hepatic damage, vascular inflammation and endothelial dysfunction, nephropathy, and neuropathy via nuclear factor erythroid 2-related factor 2 activation that leads to the translation of several anti-oxidant enzymes and regulation glycolysis, pentose phosphate pathway, fatty acid metabolism, glutamine metabolism, and glutathione metabolism. Furthermore, multiple clinical trial studies emphasized the ameliorating effects of SFN on T2DM patients. This review provides sufficient evidence for further research and development of sulforaphane as a hypoglycemic drug.

RESUMO

Multiple periodic injections of botulinum toxin A (BTX-A) are the standard treatment of hyperhidrosis which causes excessive sweating. However, BTX-A injections can create problems, including incorrect and painful injections, the risk of drug entry into the bloodstream, the need for medical expertise, and waste disposal problems. New drug delivery systems can substantially reduce these problems. Transdermal delivery is an effective alternative to conventional BTX-A injections. However, BTX-A's large molecular size and susceptibility to degradation complicate transdermal delivery. Dissolving microneedle patches (DMNPs) encapsulated with BTX-A (BTX-A/DMNPs) are a promising solution that can penetrate the dermis painlessly and provide localized translocation of BTX-A. In this study, using high-precision 3D laser lithography and subsequent molding, DMNPs were prepared based on a combination of biocompatible polyvinylpyrrolidone and hyaluronic acid polymers to deliver BTX-A with ultra-sharp needle tips of 1.5 ± 0.5 µm. Mechanical, morphological and histological assessments of the prepared DMNPs were performed to optimize their physicochemical properties. Furthermore, the BTX-A release and diffusion kinetics across the skin layers were investigated. A COMSOL simulation was conducted to study the diffusion process. The primary stability analysis reported significant stability for three months. Finally, the functionality of the BTX-A/DMNPs for the suppression of sweat glands was confirmed on the hyperhidrosis mouse footpad, which drastically reduced sweat gland activity. The results demonstrate that these engineered DMNPs can be an effective, painless, inexpensive alternative to hypodermic injections when treating hyperhidrosis.

RESUMO

Background: Currently, the escalation of microbial resistance poses a significant global challenge. Children are more susceptible to develop infections and therefore are prescribed antibiotics more frequently. The overuse and misuse of antibiotics in pediatric patients can play a considerable role in developing microbial resistance. Accordingly, many policies, including research into new antibiotic agents have been recommended to combat microbial resistance. Recent developments in novel antibiotics have shown promising results against multi-drug resistant (MDR) and extensive drug resistance (XDR) pathogens. However, as pediatric patients are typically excluded from the clinical trials of new medications, labeling and information about approved antibiotics should be improved. This study aimed to evaluate antibiotics having been introduced to the market in the last decade focusing on pediatric population. Methods: This study reviewed the published literatures on novel FDA-approved antibiotics released between 2010 and 2022. Results: Finally, seven newly approved antibiotics including ceftaroline fosamil, ceftazidime-avibactam, ceftolozane-tazobactam, ceftobiprole, imipenem-cilastatin-relebactam, meropenem-vaborbactam, and tedizolid were considered in the present review-article. All relevant data extracted from literatures, were discussed in different subtitles of "Pharmacology", "Mechanism of action", "Indication", "Dosage regimen and pharmacokinetic and pharmacodynamic properties", "Dosage adjustment in renal/liver failure", "Resistance pattern", and "Adverse drug events". Conclusion: This study reviewed available data on seven new antibiotic agents and their pharmacodynamic and pharmacokinetic properties, with a particular focus on their use in pediatric patients. The information presented in this review will be useful for healthcare professionals in selecting appropriate antibiotics for pediatric patients and for researchers in achieving the ideal therapeutic regimens.

RESUMO

A significant barrier to optimal antileishmanial treatment is low efficacy and the emergence of drug resistance. Multiple approaches were used to monitor and assess crocin (a central component of saffron) mixed with amphotericin B (AmpB) potential in silico and in vitro consequences. The binding behavior of crocin and iNOS was the purpose of molecular docking. The results showed that crocin coupled with AmpB demonstrated a safe combination, extremely antileishmanial, suppressed Leishmania arginase absorption, and increased parasite death. This natural flower component is a robust antioxidant, significantly promoting the expression of the Th1-connected cytokines (IL12p40, IFN-γ, and TNF- α), iNOS, and transcription factors (Elk-1, c-Fos, and STAT-1). In comparison, the expression of the Th2-associated phenotypes (IL-10, IL-4, and TGF-ß) was significantly reduced. The leishmanicidal effect of this combination was also mediated through programmed cell death (PCD), as confirmed by the manifestation of phosphatidylserine and cell cycle detention at the sub-GO/G1 phase. In conclusion, crocin with AmpB synergistically exerted in vitro antileishmanial action, generated nitric oxide and reactive oxygen species, modulated Th1, and Th2 phenotypes and transfer factors, enhanced PCD profile and arrested the cell cycle of Leishmania major promastigotes. The main action of crocin and AmpB involved wide-ranging mechanistic insights for conducting other clinical settings as promising drug candidates for cutaneous leishmaniasis. Therefore, this combination could be esteemed as a basis for a potential bioactive component and a logical source for leishmanicidal drug development against CL in future advanced clinical settings.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Piperine (Pn), an indole alkaloid compound found in pepper, is an effective compound with anti-leishmanial medications that administered alone or in combination. This study aimed to use Pn for possible biochemical targets and to assess mechanisms of anti-leishmanial action and immunomodulatory roles. METHODS: The ability of Pn to bind to interleukin-12P40 (IL-12P40) and interferon-γ (IFN-γ) was investigated using molecular docking. The leishmanicidal effect of Pn, meglumine antimoniate (Glucantime®; MA), and Pn plus MA was assessed on Leishmania major promastigotes and amastigotes. A real-time PCR was applied to quantify cytokines gene expression in drug-treated murine macrophages. RESULTS: The molecular docking findings indicated that Pn could bind to IL-12P40/IFN-γ. In silico analyses showed an affinity of Pn to IL-12P40/IFN-γ, with the MolDock score of -236.91 and -64.87 kcal/mol, respectively. Pn plus MA reduced the proliferation rate of promastigote and amastigote forms of L. major compared to each drug alone (IC50 = 43.22 and 19.41 µg/mL, respectively). Moreover, the combination drug demonstrated no cytotoxicity as the selectivity index (SI) was 14.81. Also, Th1-related cytokines were upregulated, while Th2-related cytokines were downregulated in Pn combination-treated murine macrophages. CONCLUSIONS: The superior effectiveness of combination therapy on L. major warrants further investigations on the clinical potential of this combination in the treatment of leishmaniasis.

RESUMO

Based on the modification of carbon paste electrode with NiCo2O4 nanoplates and 1-hexyl-3-methylimidazolium tetrafluoroborate, a new electrochemical sensing platform for the sensing of favipiravir (a drug with potential therapeutic efficacy in treating COVID-19 patients) in the presence of acetaminophen was prepared. For determining the electrochemical behavior of favipiravir, cyclic voltammetry, differential pulse voltammetry, and chronoamperometry have been utilized. When compared to the unmodified carbon paste electrode, the results of the cyclic voltammetry showed that the proposed NiCo2O4 nanoplates/1-hexyl-3-methylimidazolium tetrafluoroborate/carbon paste electrode had excellent catalytic activity for the oxidation of the favipiravir in phosphate buffer solution (pH = 7.0). This was due to the synergistic influence of 1-hexyl-3-methylimidazolium tetrafluoroborate (ionic liquid) and NiCo2O4 nanoplates. In the optimized conditions of favipiravir measurement, NiCo2O4 nanoplates/1-hexyl-3-methylimidazolium tetrafluoroborate/carbon paste electrode had several benefits, such as a wide dynamic linear between 0.004 and 115.0 µM, a high sensitivity of 0.1672 µA/µM, and a small limit of detection of 1.0 nM. Furthermore, the NiCo2O4 nanoplates/1-hexyl-3-methylimidazolium tetrafluoroborate/carbon paste electrode sensor presented a good capability to investigate the favipiravir and acetaminophen levels in real samples with satisfactory recoveries.

RESUMO

Herbal chemicals with a long history in medicine have attracted a lot of attention. Flavonolignans and flavonoids are considered as two classes of the above-mentioned compounds with different functional groups which exhibit several therapeutic capabilities such as antimicrobial, anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, antidiabetic, and anticancer activities. Based on the studies, high hydrophobic properties of the aforementioned compounds limit their bioavailability inside the human body and restrict their wide application. Nanoscale formulations such as solid lipid nanoparticles, liposomes, and other types of lipid-based delivery systems have been introduced to overcome the above-mentioned challenges. This approach allows the aforementioned hydrophobic therapeutic compounds to be encapsulated between hydrophobic structures, resulting in improving their bioavailability. The above-mentioned enhanced delivery system improves delivery to the targeted sites and reduces the daily required dosage. Lowering the required daily dose improves the performance of the drug by diminishing its side effects on non-targeted tissues. The present study aims to highlight the recent improvements in implementing lipid-based nanocarriers to deliver flavonolignans and flavonoids.

RESUMO

Real-time feedback-driven single particle tracking (RT-FD-SPT) is a class of microscopy techniques that uses measurements of finite excitation/detection volume in a feedback control loop to actuate that volume and track with high spatio-temporal resolution a single particle moving in three dimensions. A variety of methods have been developed, each defined by a set of user-defined choices. Selection of those values is typically done through ad hoc, off-line tuning for the best perceived performance. Here we present a mathematical framework, based on optimization of the Fisher information, to select those parameters such that the best information is acquired for estimating parameters of interest, such as the location of the particle, specifics of the excitation beam such as its dimensions or peak intensity, or the background noise. For concreteness, we focus on tracking of a fluorescently-labeled particle and apply this framework to determine the optimal parameters for three existing fluorescence-based RT-FD-SPT techniques with respect to particle localization.

RESUMO

Iran has invariably been under the growing public health threat of cutaneous leishmaniasis (CL), a significant barrier to local development that hinders the prevention and control efforts toward eliminating the disease. So far, no comprehensive and in-depth epidemiological analysis of the CL situation has been carried out nationwide. This study aimed to employ advanced statistical models to analyze the data collected through the Center for Diseases Control and Prevention of Communicable Diseases during 1989-2020. However, we emphasized the current trends, 2013-2020, to study temporal and spatial CL patterns. In the country, the epidemiology of CL is incredibly intricate due to various factors. This fact indicates that the basic infrastructure, the preceding supports, and the implementation plan related to preventive and therapeutic measures need crucial support. The leishmaniasis situation analysis is consistent with desperate requirements for efficient information on the control program in the area. This review provides evidence of temporally regressive and spatially expanding incidence of CL with characteristic geographical patterns and disease hotspots, signifying an urgent need for comprehensive control strategies. This information could be a suitable model and practical experience in the Eastern Mediterranean Region, where over 80% of CL is reported.

RESUMO

The aim of this study is to evaluate a previousely developed photoacoustic spectroscopy system with light sources of visible to short-wave near infrared (Vis-SWNIR, 395-940 nm) for detection of adulterations in cow's milk including formalin, urea, hydrogen peroxide, starch, sodium hypochlorite, and detergent powder. The results of principal component analysis (PCA) showed a very good visual differentiation of different adulterations. The artificial neural networks (ANN) showed the highest classification accuracy (97.6 %) in detection of adulteration type and adulteration level (nearly 100 %). It can be generally concluded that the Vis-SWNIR photoacoustic spectroscopy system is a reliable and potent instrument for detecting various types of milk adulterations. Further studies are suggested with including cow's milk of different sources with probable variations in composition to generalize the findings of the present study. With the extension of the light sources to the range of long-wave NIR, the system can be applied as a diagnostic tool for quality evaluation of other liquid foods.

RESUMO

The goal of this study was to analyze the antileishmanial and antibacterial activity of Coffea arabica green seed biosynthesize silver nanoparticles (C. arabica AgNPs), as well as cytotoxicity and cytokine gene expression. UV-vis spectroscopy, FTIR, and FESEM methods used to examine the C. arabica AgNPs. MTT test was used to assess the antileishmanial and cytotoxicity effects. The gene expression level was assessed in NPs-treated J774 cells by qPCR. The synthesized C. arabica AgNPs were in the size range of 20-70 nm, through FESEM pictures. The IC50 values of the NPs were 65. 4 and 47.70 µg/mL against promastigotes and amastigotes of Leishmania major, but these values were 580.1 and 171.1 µg/mL for Glucantime® as the control drug. C. arabica AgNPs represented a significant increase in IL-12P40, as a Th1 cytokine, in comparison to Glucantime® at high concentrations (P < 0.01), whilst IL-10 expression level showed a significant reduction between NPs-treated and Glucantime®-treated macrophages at 250-1000 µg/mL concentrations (P < 0.001). Moreover, the NPs were cytotoxic on cancer cell lines of Hek293, MCF7, and A172 with the CC50 values of 437.2, 116.8, and 72.9 µg/mL, respectively. It showed a significant effect of these NPs against A172 (P < 0.001). Also, the lowest MIC values of the NPs were obtained for Bacillus subtilis and Staphylococcus aureus (204 µg/mL). According to the antileishmanial, anticancer, and antibacterial activity of these NPs, it can considered a bio-agent drug in the future in endemic countries.

RESUMO

An ultrasensitive and selective voltammetric sensor with an ultratrace-level detection limit is introduced for ketoconazole (KTC) determination in real samples using a modified carbon paste electrode with a sheaf-like Ce-BTC MOF nanostructure and ionic liquid. The as-synthesized nanostructure was characterized by several techniques, including energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDX), X-ray diffraction (XRD), and field emission scanning electron microscopy (FE-SEM). The electrocatalytic performance of the developed electrode was observed by cyclic voltammetry (CV), differential pulse voltammetry (DPV), linear sweep voltammetry (LSV), and chronoamperometry. The limit of detection (LOD) of the developed sensor for KTC is 0.04 µM, and the response was found to be in the dynamic concentration range of 0.1-110.0 µM in a phosphate buffer solution. The proposed electrode exhibits acceptable electrocatalytic activity for KTC oxidation with a high sensitivity of 0.1342 µA·µM-1. The ability of the fabricated sensor to monitor KTC in real aqueous samples is demonstrated using standard addition data.

RESUMO

Background: GP63, also known as Leishmanolysin, is a multifunctional virulence factor abundant on the surface of Leishmania spp. small peptides with anticancer capabilities that are selective and toxic to cancer cells are known as anticancer peptides. We aimed to demonstrate the activity of GP63 and its anticancer properties on melanoma using a range of in silico tools and screening methods to identify predicted and designed anticancer peptides. Methods: Various in silico modeling methodologies are used to establish the three-dimensional (3D) structure of GP63. Refinement and re-evaluation of the modeled structures and the built models' quality evaluated using the different docking used to find the interacting amino acids between MMP2 and GP63 and its anticancer peptides. AntiCP2.0 is used for screening anticancer peptides. 2D interaction plots of protein-ligand complexes evaluated by Protein-Ligand Interaction Profiler server. It is for the first time that used anticancer peptides of GP63 and the predicted and designed peptides. Results: We used 3 peptides of GP63 based on the AntiCP 2.0 server with scores of 0.63, 0.53, and 0.49, and common peptides of GP63/MMP2 (continues peptide: mean the completely selected peptide after docking with non-anticancer effect, predicted with 0.58 score and designed peptides with 0.47 and 0.45 scores by AntiCP 2.0 server). Conclusions: The antileishmanial and anticancer peptide research topics exemplify the multidisciplinary nature of peptide research. The advancement of therapeutics targeting cancer and/or Leishmania requires an interconnected research strategy shown in this work.
